When it comes to self-defense, there is no substitute for good judgment, maturity, and situational awareness. When I studied Cuong Nhu, the instructors stressed what they called the Five A's of Self Defense: Awareness, Alertness, Avoidance, Anticipation, and Action. I've explained them in this article:
